New Regulations and changes to how you order Pregabilin and Gabapentin
New regulations 2001 come into force which mean that Pregabalin and Gabapentin will be classified as Schedule 3 Controlled Drugs (CDs).
As a result of these changes pregabalin and gabapentin will not be available to supply via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) and they will require full prescription writing requirements in line with other Schedule 2 and 3 controlled drugs. Prescriptions will only be valid for 28 days from the appropriate prescription date.
EMIS are making the necessary changes which is being rolled out over the following eight weeks to ensure the changes are in place in time for the regulatory changes in April .
Once our system has been updated we will no longer be able to send these prescriptions EPS and will have to print them off for collection in line with other Contolled drugs
To minimise any issues that may arise as a result of this change we are making patients ordering these items are aware of the new prescription status for pregabalin and gabapentin.
28 day prescribing
We are complying with Southport and Formby CCG advice to change drug quantities on prescription to a 28 days supply for each item. (This will not apply to the contraceptive pill)
If you pay for your medicines a Pre-paid certificate is likely to be more cost effective. You can purchase these on line or by telephoning 0300 300 1341.
Please allow 2-3 working days for us to issue a script after you have requested it and don't leave it until the last minute to order medicines-thanks and Prescriptions are ready to collect after 430 pm.
More and more patients are finding the convenience of ordering prescriptions on line via Patient access a real benefit particularly those who work or find it difficult to get in to surgery.

Online services are provided by Patient Access. This system is linked to your electronic health records at the surgery. There are many benefits of Patient Access:
- Order repeat prescriptions
- Update your contact details
- View investigation results
- See various aspects of your electronic health record
- Option to share your own health data with your GP using a mobile phone application
If you would like to sign up for these online services, you will need a "ticket code". Please speak to reception who would be more than happy to assist you with this.
Sometimes getting to the surgery to request a repeat prescription is not practical, so we have an online service you may use to request a repeat prescription of a drug which has been set up by your doctor for repeat prescribing.
You will need to register first and then access this service via the link at the top of this page.
Alternatively, if you would prefer not to use the online facility, please highlight which medication you require on the tear-off slip attached to your previous prescription and submit it to the practice or complete the form available at reception.
If you are unable to get to the surgery to collect your prescription, please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope and we will post it to you.
You can also opt to have prescriptions sent electronically to a chemist of your choice. This could possibly even be a chemist out of our local area, which might be useful if you work away during the week. Please discuss this Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) with your chemist, and let us know if you would like the service set up.
We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the telephone unless you are housebound.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Your medication review date is set to your birthday by default. We would ask when possible, that any blood tests or reviews are carried out in the month prior to your medication review date.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.
